Don't Overlook This With Relationship OCD & Relationship Anxiety (Foundation & Basics)

I wanted to sit down with you today to talk to you about something that you may be overlooking and dismissing especially if you feel like you've been going through the journey of integration and healing with relationship OCD, OCD,  anxiety, intrusive thoughts in general. For what you may be feeling, it has been a very long time in accordance with your timeline of healing and integration which we all have.  We can all kind of get into comparison. This video is for you if you experience anxiety and OCD itself but it's also for you if you feel as though you tend to get stuck in your mind and in your obsessive thoughts regarding different methods and different modalities that you “should be” using when working with OCD and ROCD.

So let's talk about this thing that we tend to overlook and dismiss especially if we've been doing this for a while now which is the importance of the foundational work of ROCD and OCD. When I think of the foundational work of OCD, I'm talking about the work that works for you, and usually when we're working with OCD that means working with mindfulness, working with CBT,  working with ERP, and working with the WAKE technique.

The foundation of the ROCD course and Academy that we have listed is the basics of working with intrusive thoughts understanding that thoughts are just thoughts. At the end of the day watching the thoughts coming in and out being an observer to the intrusive thoughts, recognizing that the thoughts are a protective mechanism versus going in and deeply analyzing and trying to figure out the context and you know trying to analyze every single thought that keeps coming up which tends to spiral and further create more suffering and pain for people who experience OCD.

So the foundational work, you guys no matter where you are at in your journey with OCD, with anxiety is going to help you and I'm not going to say it in a definite form but from what I've seen within myself and for clients we've worked with thousands of clients throughout the world it will help you for the rest of your life no matter what level you're at. And I want to hone into this aspect of this level because a lot of people tend to take our course especially kind of the foundational basic course which is the ROCD Academy or they do therapy and they do the work of ROCD and then over a couple years they might kind of get into trauma work. They might get into attachment work,  they might get into somatic work, energy work, spiritual work, and all other forms of beautiful methods that we have in this world to enhance and come back to really the tress of our being.  And they tend to have this misconception where they think oh well I've already done the foundation, I've already done the Basics.  I've already you know gone through the understanding that thoughts are just thoughts and that thoughts will come in and out and intrusive thoughts are there for my protection and they almost have this belief that if they go back to the basics that they're in some way feeling and I'm here to let you know that the basics and the foundation of this work will be your ground that you are walking. Will be kind of like you're saving grace when you are feeling as though you are stuck, when feeling as though you don't know which way to go and that is the beauty of the foundational work, I really see it almost as like the Maslow’s hierarchy which the first level is the physiological needs and the physiological needs comes down to the foundational work of OCD, of understanding how the mind works, understanding in a way to recognize that thoughts are innocent they will come in, they will come out.  And starting to work with it on a tangible level that gives you structure so if you feel as though you kind esoteric place, ethereal place, where you're like doing this trauma work and you're which is beautiful by the way, I I encourage trauma work, especially with this work but it's really important to lay down the foundation first before going into that type of work in my perspective.

Again this is my perspective and again that doesn't mean that it is correct for every single person but this is what I've known and have seen that has worked for myself and that's worked for others I say this also because, throughout your journey with ROCD, you're going to go through almost like a spiral again, I'm sorry that I'm being definitive but this is what I've seen with myself and other people where you will kind of do the work; you'll get better and then you'll kind of circle back. You'll kind of forget the basics in the foundation and you'll come back. It's kind of like that DNA spiral that tends to happen and if you've noticed this within yourself I want you to know that you are not failing, you are right where you need to be, you are exactly where you need to be.

And as human beings, we tend to forget and we tend to remember and we kind of go through the spiral in my spiritual-emotional experience where we forget to relearn to enhance the grooves in our brain to deepen these habits that can be very very strong.

So again, my reminder for you come back to the basics come back to the foundation no matter where you are especially if you feel as though you've been on this journey for a long time because the foundation the basics will ground you will create that structure for you that will kind of create that ground as you walk and do this work hopefully that was helpful for you.

This is something that I felt inspired to share just because I can sometimes have intrusive thoughts come up and obsessive thoughts come up and because I love spirituality and emotional work and all these different I can tend to be kind of taken away from the basics and the foundation of what roots me back which is the basic work of ROCD which is in the first five or seven modules of the academy.  So if you looking for that feel free to find all of that information there.
